Show creator leaves ABC for Netflix

After 12 years at ABC, Shonda Rhimes leaves network for streaming service, Netflix.

Shonda Rhimes, who is popular for "Scandal," "Grey's Anatomy" and "How to Get Away with Murder" has signed a new deal with Netflix.

The new deal which was announced on Sunday, August 13, 2017, ends Rhimes 12-year partnership with ABC Network.

The partnership started in 2005 with her long-running medical drama, "Grey's Anatomy," which is set to debut its 14th season in September 2017.

Despite Rhimes move to Netflix, her shows "Grey's Anatomy," ''Scandal" and "How to Get Away With Murder" would continue to air on ABC.

Also, Rhimes-produced legal drama "For the People" will debut on ABC later this year.

Rhimes' past shows on ABC include "Private Practise" and "The Catch."

Thanking ABC for the opportunity given her, Rhimes said she looks forward to expanding her audience and creativity with Netflix.

"Starting today, we are thrilled to begin creating new Shondaland stories with Netflix," she wrote.

This announcement comes a week after Netflix confirmed that all Disney movies (including Marvel and Lucasfilm) will no longer be available to stream on platform from 2019, as Disney is launching its own streaming platform.
