The president resumed his official duties on Monday, August 21, 2017, two days after landing in Abuja on Saturday, August 19.

He preached for unity when he addressed the nation on Monday, promising to come down hard on hate speech that has been prominent in the past few months that he was absent.

Hours after his speech, the president also wrote a letter to the National Assembly to notify lawmakers about his resumption to office, after he transmitted his executive powers to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo before he left on May 7.
