The monthly concert of unplugged core African music and social activism, Afropolitan Vibes has held with a spark.

This week marks the celebration of the great music composer, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, and in the spirit of happiness and appreciation for his good works, the concert was themed around the music icon.

Organised by the eclectic band, Bantu, at the symbolic Freedom Park, the event was ushered with traditional freshly tapped Palmwine, lubricating the happiness centres of guests.

With everyone in the mood, the rambunctious Yinka Davies was brought on as the first guest performer, and she was immediately infectious, as she drew from her skill-set of piercing vocals and showmanship to whip the house into a frenzy.

Pan Africanism was on the menu, as Ghanaian Highlife-Afro-Jazz legend Gyedu - Blay Ambolley was in form. The man combined indigenous rapping, spoken word, and percussion from his Saxophone to give a complete grand-stand performance. He even threw in Afrobeat sweetness by sampling Fela Kuti’s ‘Lady’.by all the members of the Bantu Band.

Adekunle Gold made his entry with his two buzzing singles. ‘Orente’ and ‘Sade’ were belted off in happy succession. The YBNL singer decked in classy apparel, hit the stage to a rousing welcome, as he began his set. His vocals which were arranged with a backup of brass arrangements, drum patterns and guitars called out sonorously into the night, as guests joined in the singing.

This created the perfect atmosphere for the headliner, Burna Boy, to work his magic on the night.

Burna Boy lived up to his billing, with his energetic showmanship syncing with the vibes from the crowd. He systematically lost his clothing, as he crooned ‘Soke’, and bared his chest to bring ‘Run my race’ to life. Music became the man, and the band were awesome to his every twist and turn.
