Vandals attack Church of the Transfiguration
A popular destination for religious pilgrims in Israel has been robbed. This church is believed to be where the transfiguration of Jesus Christ happened.
According to The Jerusalem Post, the robbers stole chalices, looted the donation box and damaged icons.
Wadie Abunassar, a spokesman for bishops in the Holy Land, also said that Communion bread was thrown on the ground.
Unlike other Christian sites in Israel that have been attacked, no graffiti was painted.
This has led church officials to believe that this is simply a case of robbery, not Jewish extremism.
However, a report has been made with police.
This popular spot for pilgrims is believed to be where the transfiguration of Jesus Christ occurred, and where Moses and Elijah appeared and spoke with Jesus. (Matthew 17:1-13)
