In one of the more random reality TV-happenings of the year, 90 Day Fianc star Evelyn Cormier has made it to the top 20 of this season of American Idol. During the Top 20 Solo Round, she sang "Leaving On a Jet Plane" by John Denver.

For those who need a refresher on Evelyn and her story, she appeared on season 5 of the hit TLC reality show in 2017 with her fianc, David Vzquez Zermeo. (In case you need a refresher, 90 Day Fianc follows Americans as they attempt to bring their foreign partners stateside on a K-1 visa, which requires the international couples to get married within 90 days. The drama!)

David, who is from Spain, messaged Evelyn after seeing the Facebook page for her band. While that might sound like the beginning of a charming love story, viewers were turned off by the fact that David was 27 at the time, and Evelyn was only 18.

The couple bonded over their religious values and desire to stay abstinent until marriage, although David expressed hesitation at living in Evelyn's small hometown of Claremont, New Hampshire.

"David is definitely the first man that I've ever been in love with," Cormier said on the show. "I've had relationships where I thought I felt love, but now, being in love, I know this is crazy, this is something I've never felt before." (Of course, they went on to spend the majority of the season arguing over wedding plans.)

The couple got married in October 2017, but according to I nTouch , they caused more controversy when some Instagram posts showed that they may have met prior to being on 90 Day Fianc .

In an Instagram post celebrating her ascendance to the American Idol Top 20, Cormier thanked judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan "for believing in me."

How does David feel about his partner's achievement? Pretty darn good.

"Love you baby! So proud of you @evelyncormier ," he wrote in an Instagram post.
