I am all for women winning via expression, and Toke Makinwa is one of such women. The creative lady who became popular as a radio On-Air-Personality, has worked really hard at breaking boundaries as it comes to the full spectrum of her creativity.

From her work on radio, Toke Makinwa via hardwork, consistency, and branding has pushed through the glass ceiling of achievement, and has embraced all the facets of her creativity.

From radio, Toke first made the leap to TV via Toke’s Moments, her vlogging series that focuses on relationships. With a consistent release on Wednesdays, the creative grew her followership to thousands, dishing out tips from dates, to getting money from dates, and also grooming and rules of engagement.

She was to later make the leap to TV, where she has found considerable success. Her work as a TV host is well-documented in different TV stations and across a plethora of shows. Most recently, a show Trending on HipTV had her as the host for a long time.

Toke Makinwa is also involved in hosting events, and public speaking, all of these giving her an edge over most of her colleagues and competition.

What works for Toke is her ability to commoditize anything for her benefit. Her looks, her shows, her celebrity, her outifts, controversies and all. She is brazenly open about her life, and everything, negative or positive gets to spike her celebrity. In a way, she is more popular than many pop stars.

Her latest moment in the sun is connected to her failed marriage to fitness instructor and childhood sweetheart, Maje Ayida. The duo got married in a secret ceremony in 2014, and only invited the public in with photos which were released on the internet. But a year later, trouble hit paradise, and the marriage crashed bitterly.

The intrigue and events which marked the breakup has been made into a book titled ‘On Becoming’, and it has been released. Opinions are polarized on the book, butno one can deny the impact and influence of Toke Makinwa on Nigeria pop culture.

Toke is just about embracing Nollywood, as she recently starred in Funke Akindele’s TV show, Jenifa’s Diaries. But guess what she hasn’t touched?

Music.

Toke Makinwa’s creativity is yet to penetrate the music industry. For someone who has traversed various sections of the art world, she is yet to delve in to music. Toke has enough celebrity to generate traction for any project. All she needs is a creative producer and songwriter to assist and she will have a fire track to promote and make money.
