Misaki Doi needed just over an hour to advance to the second round of the Taiwan Open after a straight-sets win against Kristyna Pliskova on Monday.

The second seed won 77 per cent of first service points for a 6-3 6-4 win in one hour and three minutes in Kaohsiung.

Pliskova, the world number 102, hit nine aces compared to Doi's one but won just six points off the first serve of the Japanese.

Doi's compatriot Hiroko Kuwata failed to join her in the next round after the world number 199 was defeated by Zhang Yuxuan 7-5 6-7 (3-7) 2-6.

Zhang, who sits three places above Kuwata in the WTA rankings, hit eight aces in a match that lasted two hours and 42 minutes to move into the second round.

Anastasija Sevastova came from behind to record a 4-6 7-6 (7-0) 7-6 (7-3) victory over Kristina Kucova.

She was joined in the second round by Urszula Radwanska, who won 6-4 7-6 (7-1) win against Hsu Ching-wen.

In the last match of the day, Japan's Miyu Kato won a first-set tie-break before beating fellow qualifier Sherazad Reix in straights.
