Australia head into the shorter format seeking redemption after being subjected to a series whitewash in the three Tests by their hosts.

Marsh made 163 runs across the three Tests at an average of 27.16, but only averaged 59 with the ball as captain Steven Smith often opted for spin options once frontline seamers Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood tired.

Head coach Darren Lehmann dismissed any notion of Marsh falling out of favour, however, suggesting he was being rested with a tour of South Africa, a home Test series against the Proteas as well as fixtures against New Zealand and Pakistan to come in a crammed Australian summer schedule.

"It's a big summer ahead for him," Lehmann said.

"We've obviously got some quality all-rounders in our one-day side anyway, so we get a chance to freshen him up and ready to go for South Africa and moving forward."

Australia have not named a replacement in their 15-man squad, which was bolstered during the Tests by the addition of Travis Head.
