Last year South African rapper AKA featured Da Les, JR and Nigerian singer Burna Boy on ‘All eyes on me’. The cool kids sang about how they were about to take over the hip-hop scene. They did just this by winning the Best Collaboration category at the MTV Africa Music Awards last Saturday (18 July, 2015).
The song off the rapper’s ‘Levels’ album samples the beat of South African afropop singer Brenda Fassie’s ‘Ngiyakusaba’.
Also nominated in the song category were Davido, Uhuru and DJ Buckz: ‘The sound’ (Nigeria/SA), Diamond Platnumz and Iyanya: ‘Bum bum’ (Kenya/Nigeria), Stanley Enow and Sarkodie: ‘Njama njama cow’ remix (Cameroon/Ghana) and Toofan and DJ Arafat: ‘Apero’ remix (Togo/Ivory Coast).
AKA, Da Les and Burna Boy performed the award-winning song at the music awards ceremony . Their performance also featured BET 2015 Best International Act Stonebwoy. Watch it below:
