Wizkid is right to ignore Linda Ikeji’s 'feminist' rant
In Nigeria, we once held this saying to be true: “No be who first call police dey win case”. This loosely translates as “Whoever reports a dispute to the authorities does not have all the advantage”.Linda Ikeji literally took Wizkid to the police, reporting his cyber threat as a serious threat of bodily harm, and in her own words, “You see, violence against women and threat of violence against women is not okay.”
She went one to elevate the issue beyond what it is (a social media squabble between two angry parties, and hypocritically played the feminist card, comparing Wizkid to Chris Brown and others with a history of misogyny and battery. She made the case, less against her and beef with Wizkid, and hid under the lofty banner of feminism, violence against women, cultural misogynist, and patriarchy.
How nice. Linda Ikeji, who is regarded as the number one enemy of celebrity female empowerment is now conveniently retreating to that banner in her time of beef. She’s lucky not to have an in form Tonto Dikeh, alive Goldie, angry Lola Omotayo, and the temper of Toni Payne. Well, Toni Payne was not asleep, and she has made her mind known. How about the fans, not many believe in Linda Ikeji’s claim to victimization, and feminism. This is a case between two people who don’t have an axe to grind, and however they grind it, should be between themselves.
Not insult the genuine struggle of many African women who are currently facing real life issues, battery and misogyny. That’s what Linda has done. She has played the hypocrisy card.
But shout out to Wizkid, who is not biting her bait. The Starboy has ignored the entire case, focusing on his music, and the current buzz around him. On another level, this is hate against Wizkid coming at play. The singer’s team is of the thought that Wizkid is currently on a roll, and he has no business tainting his recent achievements with pettiness for Wizkid. He has fought that battle, and won. It’s not strategic to get involved in a sideway issue when Drake has him on a song. The singer is currently working on a pop EP, with a song expected to be released this week. He also has to plan for the video of the ‘One Dance’ single.
For Linda Ikeji, this an attempt to sway public opinion to her corner after Wizkid has become the first Nigerian pop star to appear on the prestigious Billboard Hot 100 chart. Wizkid is winning really heavy, and that is an ‘L’ to his beef mate Linda. Resurrecting this issue is a plot to ruin his happiness.
So far, Wizkid is not responding to this, the singer is choosing to not honor her updates with a response. This is good for his music. This is good for his brand, and this is ultimate good for him as a person. In life, you pick the battles you fight, irrespective of whether you can win or not. The aim is to win the war, not collect little victories. Wizkid is winning the war right now, by not fighting in this battle. He is winning, his brand is winning, and his music is winning.
