Eva Alordiah is popular for being good at rap. She has no album, but a number of EPs and mixtapes. She also has promised everyone a debut album, but at the moment, she has failed to come through with it. “” is its name, and everyone who has kept tabs on her, or followed her for her talent is expectant.

This holiday, she indirectly revealed her decision to quit music, and chase the bright lights of another ‘phase’. If she is to be believed, she has given her last performance as a music artiste.

Can Eva Alordiah really quit music? The singer is popular for her artsy nature, combining singing with rap, and makeup artistry. Eva’s rap style is unique, and at the moment, even without an album, she is currently regarded as the number one female rapper in the country. Every other one is yet to go mainstream, or has quit making music.

The problem with Eva quitting is Eva herself. The rapper is too invested in her art to quit. In 2013, I was a young, wide-eyed wannabe journalist, who was fresh from college. I left the comforts of Port Harcourt, and chased the bright lights of journalism. Eva Alordiah was my first ever interview. I met up with her at her office in Ikeja, where we had a one on one session. Calm and assured Eva was friendly and open, as she discussed her passion, music, and why she had quit the first time.

Eva was dropped in 2012 by eLDee’s Trybe Records. The split was not without its drama, with rampant stories of the rapper’s poor attitude being the problem. She had earlier worked with other managers including BooBoo, Obinna Agwu, and even lost out on recording deals with Capital Hill Records and failed to reach an agreement with video director MEX, for a contract.

Eva was reflective in that interview, stating that she just wants time off music, and she will be pursuing her makeup business. For many reasons, that interview was never published, but it would be 2 years before I could see her again. This was in 2015, and she had returned to music, and promoting the “1960” album. She was all charm as she talked about her project. Gone was the woman who was disheartened by the mic. The 2015 version of Eva Alordiah was bubbly, and enthused.

On January 1 2015, at The Headies, Eva was engaged to her boyfriend, Caesar, who is an actor, presenter and model. The “1960” album is yet to be completed, and now she hints at quitting?

Eva cannot quit being a musician. It’s the one thing that comes naturally to her, and that serves as a mass media of expression. She has a lot at stake now, with her fans, colleagues and collaborators leaning in on her to actualize her potential in music.

Away from what goes on without, Eva is happiest when she is recording music. She comes alive at the mic, choosing it as an instrument to freely express what she feels on the inside, and relieve stress. Away from the job, it’s her one true passion, and that hasn’t changed.
