Malinga sat out the recent series victory over England on home soil, but he is on the mend and set to face New Zealand in the last two games in a seven-match series next month.
Sri Lanka coach Marvan Atapattu said: "Malinga is still recovering from surgery and everything is going well according to plan.
"He will return for the last two ODI games in New Zealand."
Malinga has been named in the Sri Lanka squad for the Cricket World Cup, which commences in February.
