2027: Why Peter Obi may consider merger - Tanko
Yunusa Tanko has stated that Peter Obi is open to a merger to improve Nigeria rather than merely seek power.
Reports have emerged about a potential alliance between Obi and other political figures to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), a year after Obi ran in the 2023 presidential election, which the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Tinubu won.
Tanko, the Chief Spokesperson for Obi-Datti and Director of Media for the Labour Party (LP), reiterated that Peter Obi’s commitment to Nigeria’s progress is unwavering.
He emphasised that Obi would only collaborate with those who shared his vision, underscoring his dedication to the country’s advancement.
“His Excellency Peter Gregory is not interested in a merger that is only for the interest of seeking power. He is interested in a merger that will bring Nigerians out of the poverty level, bringing the Nigerian people to a comfortable state of health care,” he said on Monday’s edition of Channels Television’s Politics Today.
“Making sure Nigerians have potable drinking water; making sure the problem of power supply is being solved.
“So, therefore, he is interested strongly in a merger that is driven by ideology and a programme. But if it’s only for the purpose of power, he is not interested.”
He stated that any potential merger involving Obi and others would be carefully examined to ensure their values are aligned.
