Terrorists burn down military base in Borno

The terrorists attacked the base in Wajirko village, which is near the state capital, Maiduguri, on Thursday, April 6.

Nigerian soldiers prepare to head off on patrol to search for Boko Haram militants outside Maiduguri in Borno State, in Nigeria's northeast on March 25, 2016

“The gunmen arrived in pickups and engaged soldiers in the base just outside the village in a heavy shootout,” a resident, Bukar Maduye told AFP.

“The soldiers were outgunned and forced to withdraw from the base and allowed the gunmen, who were from Mamman Nur faction, to take over the base which they looted and set on fire,” he added.

“There were no reports of casualties from either side but the (military) base was completely burnt by the Boko Haram terrorists and the soldiers fled,” local vigilante, Mustapha Karimbe said.

Karimbe also said that the soldiers had been moved to a nearby military base.
