Considering that social media like Instagram and YouTube have become constants in our lives for communication and entertainment, it should come as no surprise that these platforms are producing some of Generation Z's most popular and beloved stars and celebrities.

The biannual report of teens was released Wednesday , based on a survey conducted by financial analysts at Piper Sandler (formerly Piper Jaffray) of 5,200 teens around the United States. As part of the survey, teens were asked about their favorite brands, spending behaviors, and tech preferences. This year, spending among the teens was the lowest reported in the survey since 2011 likely due to the results' overlap with the coronavirus outbreak.

The most recent survey also sheds further insight on Generation Z's social media behaviors. Although short-video platform TikTok has been on a meteoric rise in the US since it arrived in 2018, the app still has yet to reach the popularity and level of usage of Instagram or Snapchat among teens.
