Greece always gets to go first at the Olympic opening ceremony, and there's a historical reason why.

  • Greece once again led the parade of nations, as is tradition, because of their role in the origin of the Olympics.
  • The rest of the order is determined alphabetically by the host nation's language.

The 2018 Winter Olympics officially kicked off with the opening ceremony in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

As has become tradition, the ceremony starts with a celebration of the host country, followed by the parade of athletes. And once again, Greece was the first country introduced due to their historical importance to the games.

The order of the parade of nations at every Olympics is as follows.
