Africa Cup of Nations reigning champions, Algeria, have started their title defence on a very disappointing note.

Algeria shared the spoils with Sierra Leone after a goalless affair in their AFCON 2021 opener in Group E on Tuesday at the Omnisports de Douala.

Les Fennecs had a shaky start, which saw Sierra Leone almost break the deadlock in the opening half an hour.

However, the Riyah Mahrez captained side recovered to dominate the final 15 minutes of the barren first half.

Riyah Mahrez had a quiet game against Sierra Leone.

In the second half, it was all the Foxes but they failed to find the breakthrough as the Leone Stas continued to defend well.

Yacine Brahimi and Mahrez had the best chances of the game for the champions but failed to convert as Stars held on for a share the spoils.
