The governor said this at a one-day sensitisation programme on the dangers and national security implications of child beggars held on Tuesday in Kaduna.

The governor represented by his wife, Hadiza El-Rufai,  assured the citizens   of his governments’ commitment in checkmating  the menace, adding however, that children have to be cared for, being the future leaders of the country and the assets of their families.

Also, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Hajiya Khadijah Bukar, said the programme was organised to tap ideas and possible solutions from stakeholders in addressing the menace.

Bukar represented by Ambassador Tula Isah  called on parents to always take responsibilities for their children by providing them basic education and love.

” No parent should condemn his child to hunger by sending them to beg on the streets, the implications are too numerous and can be  a treat to national security “.

Rather, parents should ensure they give their wards the right upbringing so that they would grow up to become better citizens, she said.

The programme, organised with the support of Kaduna State Government, to consider the danger and menace of street begging in the state is expected to be replicated across the 19 Northern states.
