4 ways to do more this season

Ramadan originated as an observation of the first revelation of the Qur'an to Prophet Mohammed (pbuh).

For Muslims across the world today, Ramadan has become a time when they purify the soul, refocus attention on God and practice self-discipline and sacrifice.

Depending on the moon cycle, Ramadan will finish this Sunday 25th June or Monday 26th June and in Nigeria we will have a public holiday to mark its end and prepare for the Eid al- Fitr celebrations.

During the remaining 4 days of Ramadan, here are 4 examples of what YOU can do to refocus your attention on God:

1. Help the poor:

The Prophet (pbuh) also said: “Give charity without delay, for it stands in the way of calamity.” (Zakat)

Ramadan is a time of reflecting on what we are lucky to have and offering assistance to those less fortunate than ourselves.

Many of us do not have many spare resources but we can always DO MORE.

2. Eat Healthy and Moderately:

With less time to eat in Ramadan, we really need to pay attention to what we eat. Now is the best time to research the nutritious value of the food we eat. While we fast, the food we eat before we start our fast or to break our fast needs to provide the optimal energy so we can accomplish our daily tasks and increase our worship.

The Prophet (pbuh) said: “I have not filled myself in 16 years because filling oneself makes the body heavy, removes clean understanding, induces sleep and makes one weak for worship.”

Try eating plenty of natural fruits and nuts. Where possible, avoid too many sugary drinks and instead stick to natural drinks and teas.

3. Recite and Reflect Upon the Qur’an:

Reflect on portions of the Qur’an to get closer to Allah and understand your responsibilities. Every single time you read the Qur’an, you will uncover more depths of meaning and benefit in this world and the hereafter.

4) Repent and Make Dua’a:

We all make mistakes, but alhamdulilah we can always repent.

The Prophet (pbuh) said: “All the children of Adam constantly err, but the best of those who constantly err are those who constantly repent.”

Look out for the Lipton Ramadan Lounges:

God recognises the sacrifices that Muslims make during Ramadan. He appreciates it and it brings you closer to him. This special period is also a time when we reflect and see all the good that happens in our communities every day.

Lipton Tea has always been a favourite amongst Muslims and that’s why this year Lipton Ramadan Lounges will again be visiting mosques around Nigeria to give out FREE Lipton Tea to support those who are fasting and doing good in society.

They will be in Ijebu Ode, Yola and Lafiaover the next 4 days (Wednesday, June, 21, Thursday, June 22, Friday, June 23, Saturday, June 24)  at mosques in the following states so look for them and refresh your body and mind with a FREE cup of Lipton Tea.
