One of which is the drone technology, that its deployment has positively impacted many sectors in Africa. Drone technology is currently being used in agriculture, security and crime monitoring.

Getting medical supplies to rural and remote areas in Africa is very difficult, if not impossible. With Zipline, a Californian drone-startup, many Rwandan clinics now get medical services and supplies to many remote parts of the country.

The startup helps carry blood samples and medicines over the long distance between the rural areas and clinic in Kigali and other major cities.

The service has also commenced in Tanzania while it is hoped that it would extend to other African countries.

2. Farm Monitoring

Farmers in Africa are now employing drone technology to improve agricultural process and outputs.

According to reports, farmers in the Western Cape of South Africa now use drones to monitor and assess vegetation health, track their farm animals and prevent incursions into their farms.

Also, Verdant tech startup also provides similar services to farmers in the West Africa sub-region.

3. Humanitarian Efforts

Drone technology has made easy the difficulties encountered while providing reliefs to victims of natural disasters especially in mountainous regions in Africa.

A Dutch company, Wings For Aid, is now using an unmanned drone to get relief materials to conflict ridden and remote areas of Africa.

4. Conservation of forests and Protection of animals

Conservation activities in Africa are currently being supported by drones.

Thermal imaging cameras of drone facilitate monitoring deforestation and mining operations. It also sees animals and poachers in the bush at night, thus alerting necessary authorities.

Security agencies in Africa are now deploying small drones to monitor conflict prone areas. This is aimed at reducing the chances of conflict in these areas.
