Nigeria's Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung, on Monday apologised to players and officials of Nigeria’s Olympic football team, Dream Team VI, for the circumstances that led to their late arrival in Brazil.

Dalung joined the players to celebrate after their 1-0 win over Japan which guaranteed them a place in the quarter-finals.

9:00pm – Aruna Quadri Vs Timo Boll (Germany)

Day 2 Review

Swimmer, Tonjor Rachel, finished 2nd in heat 1 but 42nd overall in the Women's 100m breaststroke event. This was not enough for her to qualify her for the semi-finals.

In the men’s Singles Table Tennis event, Segun Toriola was beaten in round 2.

Aruna Quadri was however on the winning side as he shockingly beat  fifth seeded player Chih-Yuan Chuang.

Nigeria lost in Water Sports as Jonathan Akinyemi and Rechel Tonjor could not make it to the next round.

Nigeria U-23 side beat Sweden by a lone to sealed qualification to the quarter-finals while the Senior Basketball team lost their opening Rio 2016 game to Argentina.

Day 1 Review

Chierika Ukogu was the first Nigerian in action in Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

She was successful, progressing to the quarter-finals of women’s Single Sculls.

 

Olufunke Oshonaike and Edem Offiong next as they qualified from the Preliminary rounds of women’s Table Tennis Singles, but were knocked out in the first round.

Segun Toriola who also competed in the Table Tennis, advanced to Round 2 of the men’s Singles after winning round 1 of his game on Saturday.

Dream Team VI

Oghenekaro Etebo play Ogenekaro Etebo scored four goals as Nigeria beat Japan (FIFA.com)

 

After several flight delays, Nigeria's Dream Team VI struggled to a 5-4 win over Japan in their first game of Rio 2016.
