South Africa coach Heyneke Meyer warned his team they would need to be at their best to bounce back against Argentina on Saturday.

The Springboks suffered their first ever loss to Argentina in a 37-25 defeat in Durban to finish the Rugby Championship.

But they get a chance to respond with a trip to Buenos Aires as their preparations for the Rugby World Cup continue.

After landing in a cold and wet Argentina on Thursday, Meyer said the Springboks expected another testing encounter.

"We were not good enough last week and the Pumas deserve full credit for their performance," he said.

"Saturday's Test will be a massive challenge and we simply have to fire on all cylinders."

Meyer has made numerous changes to the squad that suffered the loss in Durban, with Zane Kirchner, Lwazi Mvovo, Pat Lambie, Willem Alberts, Marcel van der Merwe, Adriaan Strauss and Trevor Nyakane all coming in for their first starts of the season.

The Springboks are without injured captain Jean de Villiers, as well as Marcell Coetzee and Willie le Roux among others.

Argentina have also swung the changes for the return clash as coach Daniel Hourcade made eight alterations to his starting XV.

Benjamin Macome expects the Springboks to be desperate for revenge after their Durban loss.

"We expect a very physical game and against a team which surprised and try to take revenge on Saturday," he said.

"[They] will want to submit to the forwards to find spaces that were not in Durban."
