Odell Beckham Jr Wide receiver exits New York Giants practice

Odell Beckham Jr reassured New York Giants fans over his fitness after going down in training camp.

Odell Beckham Jr insisted his ankle injury was not a major concern after the New York Giants received a scare at their training camp.

The 23-year-old wide receiver went down in practice on Sunday after challenging with new free agent signing Janoris Jenkins for a deep pass from quarterback Eli Manning.

Beckham collided with cornerback Jenkins and initially fell to the turf before limping off to the sidelines, where he sat to receive treatment.

However, Giants fans will not have to worry about a long-term absence for Beckham, who has made the Pro Bowl in each of his first two professional seasons after being drafted at number 12 overall in 2014.

"I got stepped on," Beckham told reporters. "It's nothing too bad. It's football, it happens.

"You don't want to get injured and I have been down that road before, but I have been worse. I'm alright, but [when I next practice] is not my call.

"We will just take it day-by-day, I don't know how it will feel three hours from now or tomorrow so we will let it play out."

Giants head coach Ben McAdoo reiterated that the injury would not be a long-term concern.

He said: "Odell got cleated and has a cut or two. He's probably going to be sore for a couple days."
