MotoGP Marc Marquez: We must adapt to Red Bull Ring quickly

Repsol Honda rider Marc Marquez says the team must "adapt as quickly as possible" when the MotoGP calendar returns to Austria this weekend.

Repsol Honda rider Marc Marquez said the team must "adapt as quickly as possible" when the MotoGP season resumes from the summer break at the Red Bull Ring this weekend.

Marquez headed into the break on the back of a seventh consecutive win in Germany, and holds a 48-point lead atop the riders' standings after nine races.

However, he and team-mate Dani Pedrosa were not present at the private test held at the Red Bull Ring last month, where riders got the chance to test out the circuit ahead of the first MotoGP race in Austria since 1997.

While the Honda pair had the chance to ride a few laps at the circuit in June aboard the RC213V-S, Marquez knows it will be a different prospect on a MotoGP bike.

"I had the chance to enjoy this amazing track twice, even if I wasn't riding my factory bike and of course I couldn't push as much as I like," the Spaniard said.

"It's a circuit that's quite enjoyable; some things about it remind me of Austin in that you have to brake very hard and stop the bike and turn quickly, but then there's the last part that's faster.

"I think it's a good track for the world championship and I can't wait to ride there with a MotoGP bike.

"When you approach a weekend at a new circuit, it's different and you have to be able to adapt as quickly as possible.

"I'm also proud to race there because my fan club will join us with many Austrian fans. I'm sure we'll have a great weekend and hopefully sunny weather."

Marquez has won three races in 2016, finishing on the podium in eight out of the nine races so far, but is expecting a challenging second-half of the season, which features eight races in 12 weeks.

"A quite hectic and challenging second half of the season is about to begin, requiring our total concentration and a lot of hard work, so I also spent some time preparing myself with cycling and supermotard training," Marquez said of his summer break.

"Now I really look forward to getting back to racing my bike and to riding again at the Red Bull Ring."
