Jordan Spieth Golfer would prefer Ryder Cup win over FedEx Cup

Jordan Spieth, who won the FedEx Cup last season, would prefer to win the Ryder Cup this year.

At the tender age of 23, Jordan Spieth has already accomplished more in his PGA Tour career than most but one thing still eludes his resume is a Ryder Cup victory.

Spieth will be a member of this year's United States team pitted against the best from Europe.

The Europeans have won eight of the last 10 competitions, including the last three, but Spieth has set the goal to win the Ryder Cup this year after disappointing in the majors.

In fact, it's the cup he covets the most to close out the season.

“I’m setting some pretty lofty goals for myself the next six weeks, and it needs to cap off with us retaining that Ryder Cup," he told a media conference ahead of the start of the FedEx Cup play-offs at The Barclays.

"That’s very much on my mind. I’m pretty excited about the FedEx Cup play-offs obviously, and trying to repeat as the guy standing on the 18th green at East Lake, now the ninth green.

"But if we can build that momentum and carry it over into that Ryder Cup, that’s our really next major in my opinion.”

Spieth won the FedEx Cup — and the $10million prize that comes with it — last season after a harrowing victory at East Lake in Atlanta. His attention will be on the glimmering trophy again this season, but he clearly has one eye locked in on Hazeltine National Golf Club — the venue for this year's Ryder Cup.

“I think I’ve mentioned this before, that the Ryder Cup in 2014 prepared me for what happened in 2015,” Spieth said.

I felt like each hole I played was a back nine of a major championship hole. It’s played with that much passion, that much intensity. There’s nothing like it in golf. There’s nothing like the Ryder Cup.

“So I can’t even imagine what it would be like on a winning team, but we are going to go ahead and try and bring that feeling to ourselves and to our country.”
