Tennis legend Roger Federer has progressed to the final of the Australian Open after his opponent Chung Hyeon retired because of an injury while trailing.

Federer was up  6-1, 5-2 21-year-old Hyeon retired due to severe blistering on the bottom of his left foot.

In a game that lasted 63 minutes, Federer was too much for Hyeon but he was not happy with the way the semi-final clash ended.

I know he has had a problem with a blister, I've played with them a lot and they hurt a lot,” Federer said after the game.

It is better to stop. I'm incredibly happy to be in the final but not like this. He has had such a wonderful tournament.

In the final, Federer will now face Croatian Marin Cilic who defeat Kyle Edmund in the other semi-final on Thursday, January 25.

Women’s doubles final

This is Mladenovic’s second major women’s doubles title after she won at the 2016 French Open crown with compatriot Caroline Garcia.
