Rory McIlroy produced a stunning final-round performance to win the Deutsche Bank Championship on Monday.

The world number five had trailed leader Paul Casey by six shots going into the final day at TPC Boston but carded a six-under 65 to finish on 15-under-par and overhaul the Englishman to claim a 12th PGA Tour title.

Jimmy Walker was third on 12 under, with Adam Scott a shot further back ahead of Patrick Reed, Fabian Gomez and James Hahn, who tied for fifth on 10 under.

McIlroy's victory moves him from 38th to fourth in the FedExCup standings ahead of the BMW Championship later this week.

The Northern Irishman carded five birdies on the front nine, which was highlighted by up-and-down bunker birdies at the fourth and seventh holes and an 18-foot birdie putt at the eighth.

A further gain came at the par-four 12th as he sank a 15-foot putt despite seeing an excellent drive land in a divot on the fairway, and McIlroy immediately atoned for a bogey at the 17th by birdieing the last.

Casey could not rise to the occasion after McIlroy's showing put him under pressure, a two-over 73 leaving him to settle for second on 13 under.

Sitting one over after shooting 37 on the front nine, bogeys at the 11th and the 14th - sandwiched by a birdie at the 13th - gave Casey an uphill battle to catch McIlroy and he needed an eagle to tie and force a play-off when he reached the 18th.

But his undulating putt from the back of the green raced 10 feet past the hole to secure McIlroy's first PGA Tour triumph since May 2015.

McIlroy, who was four over after the first three holes in the opening round, said: "It's just amazing how things can change in this game.

"There were a lot of things going through my mind and one of them was not winning this golf tournament but from thereon I have played some great golf and holed some great putts this week."
