The team arrived just in time for the arrival date for participants which was Wednesday, April 26.

The weigh-in exercise for the championship will hold on Thursday, April 27, while the competition proper begins on Friday, April 28.

Nigeria will be hoping to perform well at the championship which also serves as a World Championships in Paris in August.

Ahead of the championship, Daniel Igali, the President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF), told that Bayelsa Government released some funds for the team’s participation.

“Yes, the Bayelsa Government has released money to accommodate all the athletes that qualified from the last championships in the state.

“And this extension is a major boost to the Nigeria Wrestling federation (NWF). The funds released so far by the Bayelsa Government will take care of 11 wrestlers and a coach."
