At the opening ceremony of the Olympics, Nigeria's representatives at the global events wore cultural attires with the colours (green and white) of the country, as Ngozi Onwumere was selected to carry the country's flag.

This is the first time Nigeria will be competing at the Winter Olympics, and the country's athletes will take part in the Bobsledand Skeleton women categories.

President Buhari assures Winter Athletes

The president has given assurances to the four Nigerian athletes participating at the 2018 Winter Olympics, that their historical efforts will not be forgotten.

The assurances were given to the athletes by the President's Senior Special Assistant on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Abike Dabiri-Erewa who encouraged the athletes by promising to host them when they return.

“I have just been told that some of you were approached by USA and other big countries to compete for them but you turned it down. You chose to compete for Nigeria and we are very proud of you."

"I want to assure you that you will never regret such decision. Win or lose, President Buhari has promised to host you at the Villa when you return. You are all winners already.” she said

The Winter Olympics will hold from February 9 to 25, in Pyeongchang, South Korea
