Enyeama thinks he would have won if Nigerians had voted
The announcement of Algerian forward Yacine Brahimi on December 2 as the 2014 BBC African Footballer of the Year came to the shock of many who had expected either of Vincent Enyeama and Yaya Toure to be crowned winner.
Enyeama, who was quick to congratulate the FC Porto man hours later says that he did not win because Nigerians did not vote enough.
Quoted in a Nigerian sports daily, he said: ''I wouldn’t say I felt bad because I deserved to win based on my performance through January till date, but it was down to voting and perhaps Nigerians didn’t vote enough.
''In any case, I want to say a big thank you to all those who did. It means I must put extra effort to my job for the next one.’’
Enyeama is nominated in the 2014 Glo-CAF Footballer of the Year award whose winner will be announced on January 8 in Lagos, Nigeria
