Victor Osimhen will train with Wolfsburg till 2017 when he is eligible to sign a professional contract
Bundesliga side Wolfsburg have confirmed that they have a deal in place to sign Nigeria youth international Victor Osimhen.
The 16-year-old finished as the highest goalscorer at the FIFA U-17 World Cup and created history with 10 goals in seven games.
He was also part of the Nigeria Dream Team that won the Africa U-23 Cup of Nations in Senegal.
His performances at the U-17 World Cup shot him into global attention and along it came admirers.
Arsenal, Tottenham and a slew of other top European clubs were reported to be interested in him but Wolfsburg have finally captured him.
The German side on Thursday, January 28 posted a photo of the striker training with them and revealed that they have made a deal with Ultimate Strikers Academy in Nigeria to sign the player in 2017.
At 16, Osimhen cannot sign any deal with Wolfsburg because of the international regulations that states that a player under the age of 18 can only be signed unless strict criteria are met.
Players can only move to another country if their parents move for ‘non-footballing reasons’, if they are from another EU nation or if they live within 100 kilometres of the club.
Osimhen has been told he is welcomed at the club training ground anytime he likes before January 2017 when he will be eligible to sign a professional deal.
Wolfsburg have also made a deal with Ultimate Strikers Academy to bring other Nigerian players for trail at the club.
