Ajax manager Alfred Schreuder has touted the qualities of Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey after his summer transfer to the Dutch club.

The Dutch manager stated that Bassey's qualities are evident enough for anyone to see especially since he displayed them at his former club Rangers.

Bassey made a summer switch from Scottish giants Rangers to the Dutch champions in a deal worth about £23m after catching the eye of Ajax.

Schreuder noted that while the Nigerian international has some areas he can improve on, he already showed his potential and qualities when playing for Rangers.

The Ajax manager told ESPN reporter Hans Kraay as reported by Ajax Showtime that Bassey had already started working on areas he could improve even while under Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

Schreuder said: "If we all saw Rangers last year, then every football connoisseur should know what his qualities are. If people don't know that, it's not my problem.

"Offensively, constructively, it could sometimes be better, but he is already really working on it and he was also working on that with Giovanni van Bronckhorst."

On Calvin Bassey's playing style and the position he could play at Ajax, Schreuder stated that just like Van Bronckhorst, he likes to play good football and thus, Bassey can fill up either the left-back or centre-back positions.

The Ajax manager finally commended Bassey's transfer, describing the Super Eagles star as an 'excellent purchase' who has a 'huge drive' for achievements.

"That is also a Dutch trainer who likes to do that and that is why he has also put him in the center. If you have looked at that carefully, he can play well at left back and as a central defender," Schreuder explained.

"He's a guy with a huge drive who wants to achieve something and I think it's an excellent purchase."

Calvin Bassey hopes to play his first Dutch Eredivisie league match for Ajax on Sunday, August 21 when they visit Sparta Rotterdam.

The Super Eagles star has now served his two-match ban for the red card he picked up on his debut in the Johan Cruyff Shield against PSV Eindhoven.
