'This is my last AFCON'-Ahmed Musa
Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa made a shock announcement at Monday's press conference.
Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa has revealed that this will be his last Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament. He stated this in a press conference ahead of the Super Eagles’ opening fixture against Egypt on Tuesday.
Musa who is still only 29 years old, has now thrown speculation around how long he has left in the national team set-up.Additionally, he stated that winning this year's AFCON would be the perfect 'parting gift' from his teammates.
"My first AFCON was in 2013 in South Africa and we won it. My second AFCON was in Egypt and we ended up in third position.
"I think this is my last AFCON and inshallah, I [have] talked to the boys, that this is the only gift that you can give to me because this is my last AFCON," Musa said.
When asked if this announcement would spell an end to his career, he had this to say, "We still have another tournament, the World Cup so if we qualify, I might take a chance if the coach decides to call me."
As the most capped player in the squad, Musa will be instrumental as the Super Eagles look to bring home the trophy.
