Team Nigeria athletes were in action on Day 12 of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

Hopes for a gold medal from our Dream Team VI were dashed as Nigeria lost 2-0 to Germany in a semi-final clash on Wednesday, August 17.

A Lukas Klostermann’s 10th minute goal and a late strike by Nils Petersen were all Germany needed to progress to the final at the expense of Nigeria.

We are still hopeful of at least a bronze medal from the Nigeria U-23 team when they play Honduras in the third place match.

In long jump, Ese Brume finished 5th in the women’s event but could not progress to the next round.

After coming second closely behind Usain Bolt in the men’s 200m Heat race, Divine Oduduru could not repeat that performance in the semi-final.

In Wrestling, Nigerian athletes could not progress to the next stage.
