The French Ligue 1 for years has been a regular hub for African footballers and on this list we break down the top five biggest earners from the continent.
All figures published on this list are from French sports daily L’Equipe.
1. Nicolas N'Koulou (Cameroon and Lyon)
Nicolas Nkoulou is the best paid African player in the French Ligue 1 with a monthly pay of €300,000 gross. The Cameroon international defender joined Lyon this summer and has spent most of his career in France playing for AS Monaco and Olympique Marseille.
2. Younès Belhanda (Morrocco and Nice)
Nice midfielder Younès Belhanda is the second highest earning African player in the French Ligue 1. The 26-year-old is on loan from Dynamo Kyiv. He has played in the Ligue 1 before with Montpellier.
3. Nabil Dirar (Morroco and Monaco)
Monaco forward Nabil Dirar is the third highest earning African player in Ligue 1. He has been playing in Monaco since 2012.
4. Clinton Njie (Cameroon and Marseille)
Cameroon international Clinton Njie is the fourth highest-paid African player in the French senior division. The Tottenham player who is on loan to Marseille played for Lyon before.
5. Vincent Enyeama (Nigeria and Lille)
Former captain of the Super Eagles of Nigeria is the fifth highest-paid African player in Ligue Enyeama takes home 1.8 million euros per year- €150,000 per month.
