The 2014 edition of the annual Nigeria Sports Awards will be contested by the best in the tracks and field sporting events, including football, and table tennis

At the unveiling and announcement of nominees for the event on Thursday, the organizers disclosed that the winners of the different categories would be selected by Nigerians by a vote in

According to the nominations sourced from the Punch, the different categories are headlined by top three athletes in that sport

Vincent Enyeama is nominated in two categories; Sportsman of the Year and Footballer of the Year, while Blessing Okagbare, the other leading nominee is up for the Track & Field Star of the Year and Sportswoman of the Year awards.

Canada U-20 World Cup revelations Asisat Oshoala and teammate, Courtney Dike will fight it out with Super Falcons player Desire Oparanozie for the Woman Footballer of The Year award, just as Emmanuel Emenike and Ogenyi Onazi contest with Vincent Enyeama in the male category

Last year’s winner and Africa Top 16 table tennis champion, Aruna Quadri, is nominated alongside ping pong veteran, Segun Toriola and Onaolapo Ojo, while Ese Brume will be battling Okagbare in the Track and Field star of the year

National team coaches, Stephen Keshi , Peter Dedevbo, and Manu Garba are up for the Coach of the Year Award.

The Super Eagles, The Falconets and Golden Eaglets are nominated for the Team of the year award, and for the Sportsman and Sportwomen of the year award; the trio of Enyeama, Onazi and Osaze Odemwingie while it is Okagbare, Oshoala for the women.

Lagos State Governors Babatunde Fashola, Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State and Liyel Imoke of Cross River State were nominated for the Sports Governor of the Year.

Commonwealth super middleweight champion, Isaac Ekpo, Efe Ajagba and 2014 Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Efetobore Akpochi are the nominees for Boxing Star of the Year.

Glasgow Commonwealth Games wrestling gold medallists, Aminat Adeniyi and Odunayo Adekuroye were nominated alongside 2008 Olympic taekwondo bronze medallist, Chika Chukwumerije, for the Combat Sports Star of the Year.

Chairman of the award panel, Mr. Ikeddy Isiguzo, said public voting was open for the Sportsman and Sportswoman categories but other categories would be decided by the panel.
