Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has chalked down his side dropping points to Southampton on Sunday afternoon to their second-half performance.

The Gunners played a 1-1 draw at St. Mary's Stadium on Sunday, with Southampton coming from behind to nick a point against the league leaders.

Granit Xhaka gave Arsenal the lead in the 11th minute but Ralph Hassenhutl's side kept pushing and got a deserved equaliser in the 65th minute through Stuart Armstrong.

We were fresh in the first half - Arteta

Southampton pushed Arsenal hard in the second period, recording more shots on target (2) than Arsenal (0) managed after the half-time break.

Arteta believes that this was the difference between both sides as the Gunners lost their 8-game winning run that started against FC Zurich in early September.

In his post-match press conference as reported by Football London, Arteta said: "I think the team looked really fresh at the start. I put it more down to the way we played. We should have played better in the second half."

Gabriel Jesus continues barren run for Arsenal

The Gunners' star striker Gabriel Jesus failed to score again on Sunday, taking his barren run to five (5) games since the Brazilian scored in the London derby against Tottenham Hotspur on October 1.

Arteta believes that the summer signing would be gutted to not have found the back of the net, despite getting enough opportunities to do so.

"I’m sure today he will be disappointed knowing Gabi. He’s having the chances and he’s always there. It’s a shame he couldn’t put them away," Arteta concluded.

The Gunners would be hoping to return to winning ways on Thursday, October 27 when they travel to the Philips Stadion to take on PSV Eindhoven in the UEFA Europa League.
