After taking just a point from two Premier League games, Manchester City returned to winning ways with a 3-1 victory over Southampton at home on Saturday, November 27.

Fabian Delph scored on his first start for the club with Kevin De Bruyne and Aleksandar Kolarov scoring to ensure that Shane Long’s striker was just a consolation for Southampton.

City started the brighter side and had chances as Saints goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg was forced to a save by Raheem Sterling in the early minutes.

Manuel Pellegrini’s men opened scoring in the 10th minute through De Bryune.

Maya Yoshida was robbed of the ball by Sterling who raced to the byline to find the midfielder to sidefoot.

In the 20th minute, Delph doubled City’s lead with a low drive from a Sterling's corner.

The Saints returned in the second half and pulled a goal back in the 50th minute through as Long met a cross from Sadio Mane to head past City goalkeeper.

Southampton had a golden chance to equalise when Tadic danced into the penalty area and tried to lift a finish over Willie Cabellero, who just managed to reach it with an outstretched left glove before then tipping away the rebound effort for Long.

Sergio Aguero was substituted in the 64th minute after landing awkwardly on his left foot.

City however got their third goal to seal the win five minutes later.

After a series of quick passes, De Bruyne picking out Kolarov at the far post, and the left-back drove a fierce angled drive into the bottom corner.
