LMC NPFL organisers to investigate Ifeanyi Ubah’s ‘attack’ on goalkeeper

It was alleged that Ifeanyi Ubah stepped into the pitch to punch the goalkeeper before he was beaten by his security.

League Management Company (LMC)  who are the Organisers of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), have opened internal investigation on the alleged attack by Ifeanyi Ubah on Heartland FC goalkeeper, Ebele Obi.

In a league game between Ifeanyi Ubah FC and Heartland FC on Wednesday, March 23, a brawl ensured after Ebele Obi who is the elder brother of John Obi Mikel pushed down the referee.

It was alleged that business man, Ifeanyi Ubah who is the owner of Ifeanyi Ubah FC  stepped into the pitch to punch the goalkeeper before he was beaten by his security.

After the incident, Obi was charged for breach of Rule C11 for assaulting the referee and banned for ‎six matches.

Ifeanyi Ubah FC were given charged for encroachment of their supporters on the technical area immediately after the match and acting in a manner capable of bringing the league to disrepute contrary to Rule B13.8 of the Rules and Framework.

The club was also charged for failure to ensure adequate security, crowd control and access to unauthorized persons to restricted areas contrary to Rule B13.52.

The club was accordingly fined N500,000 on each of the two breaches and allowed 48 hours to appeal the ruling in writing to appear before a commission or submit to the decision of the LMC.

The away team‎ Heartland FC were also not spared as they were cited for breach of Rule C9 by failing to properly control their players after the match-day 8 clash with Ifeanyi Ubah FC, which led to their accosting of the match referee in a manner that resulted in him being assaulted. They were fined to the tune of N750,000 as a result.

Ifeanyi Ubah however was just reprimanded for failing to show positive example after encroaching on the pitch to fuel the fracas that led to the harassment of Heartland FC players‎ by his team members and personal aides.

Following the emergence of video footages of the incident, the LMC have decided to investigate again.

In the light of new video evidence emerging from the FC Ifeanyiubah v Heartland match, a review of sanctions meted out earlier will be done,” they said on their Twitter.

In the video, a man in white shirt alleged to be Ifeanyi Ubah walked up to Ebele Obi and punched him before his aids attacked the goalkeeper.
