Edinson Cavani will remain at Manchester United till June 2022 in the least

Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani has chosen to stay at the club till the end of his current contract despite reported interest from Barcelona.

The Red Devils interim manager Ralf Rangnick confirmed that the Uruguayan informed him of his decision to continue at Old Trafford till the end of the season.

Rangnick made this known during his pre-match press conference ahead of United's FA Cup 3rd round fixture against Aston Villa on Monday.

"I told him that if it was up to me I would want him to stay and I had a conversation with him [last Thursday]. We spoke for almost half an hour and he told me he will definitely stay and would want to stay until the end of the season," Rangnick revealed.

The United manager also stated that Cavani decided of his own volition just as the striker committed to giving his best to the club.

Rangnick continued: "Not only because I told him that he should stay or has to stay, he did it on his own behalf, and he told me that I can rely on him to stay until the end of the season and give his very best."

Manchester United's interim manager described Cavani as the 'best possible role model', stating that even when the Uruguayan striker is not playing, his mentality and work ethic still stands out.

“He’s happy to play. But even if he’s not playing, he will be trying to be the best possible role model for the other players, and for me, this is good news because Edi is one of those players who, with his vast amount of experience, with his mentality, his work ethic, I think he could really be a perfect role model," Rangnick concluded.

Cavani has had a recent uptick in appearances since Rangnick took interim charge of the Red Devils. The 34-year-old striker has been on Barcelona's radar during the January transfer window.
