Midfielder gets compliments for first Champions League goal in 8 years

Mikel, 27 had never scored a goal in the Champions League since debuting in 2006 against Werder Bremen

Chelsea midfielder, John Obi Mikel scored his first ever Champions League goal after eight years of playing in the prestigious championship.

Mikel who proudly confirms on his Instagram saying: ‘I don’t score much lol’, notched in Chelsea’s third and last of the night as they trashed Sporting Lisbon 3-1 at Stamford Bridge.

The goal came with an utter surprise to every football fan, especially Blues supporters on the stand; bearing in mind that the 27 year-old indeed does not score much.

Compliments upon felicitations followed the historic feat, most notably from Super Eagles of National teammate.

"Massively underrated in my opinion amongst Nigerians, there's a reason he's been at Chelsea for so long! It's not easy. He sabi!," Aluko tweeted.

‘’Nice one boss, congrats on your goal anniversary. I was so happy yesterday when you scored I could not even eat again becasue the joy was much. Keep doing your thing boss.no mind them bad belle people. I dey your back, more goals in Jesus name,’’ a Nigerian player wrote on Instagram

‘’I was so proud to be a Nigerian after Mikel scored,’’ another commenter said.
