Hello, ladies and gentlemen, welcome to our live coverage of Nigeria's friendly against Algeria. My name is Joba Ogunwale, and I will be your host for tonight.

16:04

This will be the two side's first meeting since they met in an international friendly match in Austria in October 2020. On that occasion, it was the Desert Warriors who emerged victorious, courtesy of a sixth minute strike from Rasmy Bensebaini.

16:07

Algeria have also won their last three games against the Super Eagles, although one of those losses was a 3-0 walkover win in 2017. For Nigeria, they will be seeking their first win against the two-time African champions since 2016. The Super Eagles had won six straight matches against the Desert Warriors between 1995 and 2016.

16:07

Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro faces a selection problem ahead of the match as he will be without some key players. But it also gives him the chance to try out new players and see how far the team has come in his short spell.

We still have a few hours before the lineups are released, but you can share your predictions and players you would like to see in the game on our Facebook page Pulse Sports Nigeria or Twitter page Pulse Sports Nigeria. Don't forget to follow us too.

19:10

Less than an hour to go before the big kick-off in Oran, but we are still waiting for the lineup

19:10

And finally, we have the lineup. Francis Uzoho is preferred to Maduka Okoye in goal. Kevin Akpoguma, Calvin Bassey, Ola Aina and Zaidu Sanusi form a back four defensive line, while Kelechi Iheanacho, Alex Iwobi and Frank Onyeka will try to control possession in the middle of the park. Terem Moffi leads the attack and he is supported by Moses Simon and Ademola Lookman on the flanks.

Now that we have the lineup, what do you make of it? Please share your thoughts on our Facebook Page and Twitter account.

19:19

We are just about 30 minutes before kickoff, but while we wait, I have a question for you. What do you make of Nigerian football in 2022? Remember the Super Eagles will not be going to Qatar while we also had a poor AFCON campaign.

19:36

He may be in London after leaving the camp due to an injury, but Ekong is still supporting the team from afar. See tweet above

19:37

A quick reminder that the Super Eagles are seeking their first win over Algeria since they beat them 3-1 in a World Cup qualifier in 2016.

19:40

Also, I have to remind you that the Super Eagles will be playing for the first time in their new Nike designed jersey. See the home and away jerseys here

19:43

Meanwhile, in a news that has nothing to do with tonight's match, former Super Eagles captain John Mikel Obi has called time on his illustrious career. He retires with an AFCON medal, which he won with the Super Eagles in 2013. What a career for the ex-Chelsea man.

19:56

The players are out on the pitch for the national anthems. It will be interesting to see how the Super Eagles deal with the home crowd, who are out in numbers tonight.

19:57

What an atmosphere and a rendition of the Algerian national anthem. By the way, Manchester City winger Riyad Mahrez is the captain tonight.

20:00

And off we go in Oran.

20:02

It is early stages but the Algerian fans are already whistling every Super Eagles touch. First half chance for Algeria, but Uzoho dealt with the cross properly

20:05

The Super Eagles are still trying to find their feet in the game as Algeria get a freekick in a dangerous position

20:06

Luckily, it was blocked properly

20:07

Finally, the Super Eagles have settled into the game. They win their first cornerkick of the game through Zaidu Sanusi. And from the resulting corner it's a goal.

20:11

Moffi, who is Africa's top scorer in Europe's top five leagues, poached home from close range after Algeria failed to clear Iheanacho's deflected shot. First chance, first goal

20:12

It appears Moffi's backflip celebration annoyed Algerian fans, who pelted the Lorient man with bottles. It does not change the scoreline though. Nigeria 1-0 Algeria. 15 minutes gone.

20:17

Almost an equaliser for Algeria, but Bassey did well to block Mahrez's shot. And I must say, Super Eagles players really look good in their new jersey.

twitter.com
20:21

Danger for Nigeria. Sanusi's backward header fell into the path of Yousef Beliali, but the Stade Brestois star could not direct his effort on target, while Mahrez could only hit the post from a tight angle. Huge let off for Nigeria

twitter.com
20:24

Poor from Sanusi there. After Nigeria defended a corner kick properly, Moffi set up the Porto man on a break, but wasted the opportunity with a wayward pass.

20:26

It is all Algeria now, with the Super Eagles just happy to sit back and hit on the break.

20:27

Bassey has been flawless so far in this game. He has not given Slimani a sniff. The Ajax centre back did well to cut out a cross intended for the former Monaco man

20:30

Goal disallowed! Ademola Lookman's effort was ruled out for Offside. The Atalanta man tapped home into an empty net after Algeria's goalkeeper failed to deal with Iheanacho's shot properly. However, it was wrongly ruled out for offside. Still 1-0 to Nigeria, though.

20:34

Nigerians reacting to Lookman's disallowed goal.

20:35

Algeria pressing for an equaliser as they receive a freekick in a dangerous position

20:37

But Belaili's effort was comfortably saved by Uzoho. Ten minutes before the break, what are your thoughts on the game so far?

20:38

Drama. Penalty for Algeria after Onyeka was adjudged to have fouled Bensebaini in the box. This is after Slimani's shot had hit the post.

20:43

Goal! Mahrez sends Uzoho the wrong way to draw Algeria level.

20:46

Nigerians react to the officiating in this game.

20:47

In the 45th minute, Nigeria have a freekick on the edge of the box after Simon was fouled. Can they make it count?

20:49

No! Good delivery from Simon, but Algeria's goalkeeper did well to punch out the danger.

20:49

Half-time in Oran. What a first half. Moffi put Nigeria ahead but Mahrez's controversial penalty restored parity for the hosts. Let's take a breather. We will back for the second half.

20:51

Kick off! Second half

21:08

Algeria on the attack immediately but nothing came out of it.

21:09

Nigeria responded with their own wave of attack too, but Lookman could not find Moffi with his pass.

21:14

Algeria with a corner kick. The officiating in this game has been bizarre.

21:17

Nothing comes out of it, but the Desert Warriors almost took the lead through Slimani. But former Leicester City man's header was just wide.

21:19

Ten minutes gone in the second half. It's still Nigeria 1-1 Algeria

21:19

You have to wonder when Super Eagles manager Jose Peseiro will ring the changes. He has the likes of Taiwo Awoniyi, Chidera Ejuke and Cyriel Dessers on the bench.

21:21

Corner kick to Algeria. But Nigeria cleared their lines again.

21:23

GOAL! However, just from the clearance, Algeria take the lead through a thunderbolt from Youcef Atal.

21:25

Uzoho has not put a foot wrong so far, but he should have done better for the goal.

21:25

It has really been a poor display from Nigeria. It may be the time for Peseiro to look for solutions from the bench.

21:28

And we have the first change from the Super Eagles. Godwin Saviour comes on for his debut to replace Lookman. 25 minutes to go.

twitter.com
21:31

Another sub for Nigeria. Taiwo Awoniyi comes on for Moffi

21:35

Algeria looking dangerous on the attack again as they prepare for a corner kick

21:35

But Nigeria defended well this time. 15 minutes for the Super Eagles to find an equaliser

21:36

Freekick for Algeria in a very dangerous position.

21:40

A brilliant delivery, but Nigeria untroubled

21:42

Ten minutes left for the Super Eagles to get something out of the game.

21:44

Cyriel Dessers coming on for Kelechi Iheanacho while Raphael Onyedika comes on for his debut for Frank Onyeka, who has had a disappointing game.

21:48

Three minutes to the end of the game. Corner kick to Nigeria.

21:50

But Algeria clear their lines again. It would be interesting to know when last Nigeria scored from a corner kick.

21:51

Three minutes of added time. Can Nigeria find the equaliser?

21:53

No. It's full time in Oran. Algeria 2-1 Nigeria. The Desert Warriors extend their unbeaten record against Nigeria to four games. For Peseiro, his record as Nigeria's coach now reads three losses and two wins.

21:58

And that's it for this liveblog. Thank you for taking the ride with me. See you again later.
