Algeria have announced that they have appointed Spanish manager Lucas Alcaraz as their head just four days after he was sacked from Granada.

Alcaraz was sacked by Granda on Monday, April 10 following a string of poor results which have left the club in bottom place on the La Liga table.

Four days later on Thursday, April 13, the Spanish manager has been announced as the head coach of Algeria to replace Georges Leekens who quit in January after they crashed out of the first round of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Alcaraz is now the fourth full-time coach of Algeria in the last 13 months.

Christian Gourcuff left in April 2016 and was replaced by Milovan Rajevac who quit after just two games.

Alcaraz's first assignment will be at home against Togo for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

They will be aiming to win Group D- which also have Benin and The Gambia- to be guaranteed a place at the finals in Cameroon.
