Nigeria’s Table Tennis team won the country's first medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast despite losing 3-0 to India in the final of the men's event on Monday, April 9.

The Nigerian team earlier defeated England 3-2 to progress to the final but the indian team were too strong to handle.

The Nigerian team of Segun Toriola, Bode Abiodun and Olajide Omotayo could not stop the Indian trio of Harmeet Desai, Sathiyan Gnanasetkaran and Sharath A. Kamal.

The victory against Nigeria means that India won both Gold medals in the male and female table tennis events.

Nigeria's silver meal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games is an upgrade on the bronze medal won at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

After losing to Nigeria, England defeated Singapore to win the third place match.
