Based on its population structure, Nigeria has been able to develop a music industry that is heavily influential on the rest of the continent. However, this dominance of very commercially-oriented musicians has made it increasingly difficult for independent artistes to access a platform for developing artistically-ambitious music. Artists like Keziah Jones, Nneka, Asa, Ade Bantu and others are more successful abroad than in Nigeria, where independent music producers and artists lack proper support schemes and places to produce and present their musical creativity.

Taking this into consideration, Goethe-Institut Nigeria, Alliance française Lagos and Institut français Nigeria have organized a 5-day electronic music workshop for DJs and music producers in a bid to expand and explore the Nigerian music scene. This joint project is supported by the Franco-German Cultural Fund.

Facilitated by German music producer Marko Fürstenberg, French DJ R-Ash and Nigerian DJ Gboyega ‘Afrologic’ Oyedele, 6 Nigerian DJs /Electronic music producers have been selected to take part in the workshop, which commenced on Monday, June 8 and ends on Friday, June 12, 2015.

The workshop will be followed by two concerts – the first in Lagos on Saturday, June 13, and a second in Abuja on Saturday, June 20 to commemorate World Music Day.

According to the Director of Goethe-Institut Nigeria, “this workshop will showcase a highly interesting mix of influences that will make the concert on Saturday (June 13th) a unique experience.”

Date: The concert in Lagos, Saturday, June 13,

Time: 7pm.

Venue: Federal Government Printing Press, 9 Broad Street, Lagos Island, Lagos.

Come enjoy the best of European and Nigerian electronic music at the closing concert of the ‘Electronic Soundscapes’ workshop. The concert will feature live performances from DJs R-Ash, Afrologic and Marko Fürstenberg alongside the workshop participants: DJ Sketch, DJ Bally, DJ Java, PJEGK, Irawo Drumline and DJ Kwest.

Entry is Free.
