Father of 3 victims of Larry Nassar lunges at disgraced doctor in courtroom

The father of three daughters who said Larry Nassar sexually assaulted them asked for time alone with the former doctor and then charged at him in court.

Randall Margraves, the father of three daughters who said they were sexually abused by Larry Nassar, charged the disgraced doctor in court Friday during sentencing.
Margraves moments earlier had asked the judge for five minutes alone with Nassar.
Margraves was handcuffed and taken into custody. Nassar appeared unharmed.

A dramatic scene unfolded Friday when the father of three daughters accusing Larry Nassar of sexual abuse lunged at Nassar in a courtroom.

Nassar, the former USA Gymnastics team doctor and Michigan State doctor, is facing his third sentencing for sexual assault and molestation. He has already been sentenced for up to 175 years in prison for sexual assault and molestation and 60 years for child-pornography charges.

On Friday, after two of his daughters gave victim-impact statements, Randall Margraves asked to address Nassar. When the judge gave him permission, Margraves began, "You son of a b----," before the judge cut him off for using profanity.

Margraves proceeded to ask for five minutes alone with Nassar "as part of the sentencing," a request the judge denied.

Margraves then ran toward Nassar and got within a few feet of him before being tackled by courtroom security.

Margraves was handcuffed as Nassar was pulled away, with Margraves yelling: "I want that son of a b----. Give me one minute with that bastard."

People in the courtroom could be heard crying as Margraves was handcuffed. Margraves asked the officers detaining him, "What if this happened to you guys?"

The prosecutor Angela Povilaitis spoke with the families afterward, telling them that Margraves' actions were not helpful and to use only their words and experiences in the sentencing.
