Former FBI Director James Comey indirectly weighed in on the news that former White House national security adviser Michael Flynn pleaded guilty to lying to federal investigators on Friday morning.

At noon on Friday, Comey tweeted his "favorite" biblical verse, and linked to a photo he posted on Instagram of the Great Falls of the Potomac River.

"'But justice roll down like waters and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream' Amos 5:24," Comey wrote, quickly accumulating tens of thousands of likes and retweets.

Comey tweeted the same quote earlier this month, calling it his "favorite scripture verse."

After he was fired by President Donald Trump last May, Comey testified before Congress that the president requested that he drop the FBI's investigation into Flynn, who was forced to resign in February when it became public that he had mislead the vice president about his communications with Sergey Kislyak, then Russia's ambassador to the US.

Flynn pleaded guilty on Friday to lying to federal investigators about these same communications — specifically, a meeting he had with Kislyak during the presidential transition.

This is not the first time Comey has taken to social media to contribute to the national political dialogue. Earlier this month, he tweeted out a quote about freedom of the press by the former president and founding father, Thomas Jefferson, shortly after Trump railed against CNN on Twitter.

A few weeks prior, Comey tweeted about "truth" and "lies" after Trump attacked his integrity, called him a "political hack," and cast doubt on the US intelligence community's assessment that Russia interfered in the 2016 election.

"'If you want truth to go round the world you must hire an express train to pull it; but if you want a lie to go round the world, it will fly; it is light as a feather and a breath will carry it,'" Comey tweeted after the president criticized him, quoting an 1855 sermon from the Rev. Charles Haddon Spurgeon.

Comey recently made his Twitter presence public after previously maintaining a low profile on the website.
