Nigerian government places $9800 bounty on Abubakar Shekau

The person with the right information on Shekau may also be going home with extra $7 million from the US government.

According to the spokesman of the Nigerian army, Brigadier General Sani Usman, this is to encourage anyone with reliable information on his whereabouts to speak out.

“Anybody with such credible information can either contact the military command and control centre, Operation LAFIYA DOLE, any military location, security agencies or call the Nigerian Army Information and Call Centre 193,” he said.

On Tuesday, February 13, 2018, the army disclosed that Shekau is making efforts to escape Sambia forest and currently disguises as a lady by using hijab. This development shows that military operation against the group is about crushing it and the Chad region may soon return to its previous peaceful state.

“We reliably gathered that to avoid detection, Abubakar Shekau alternates between blue and black coloured hijabs. He was last seen in a black hijab,” the army said.

“He is running for his dear life. He is desperately trying to escape the Theatre, disguises as a woman and dresses in hijab.”

Abubakar Shekau and many bounties on his head

This is not the first time a bounty would be declared for credible information that could lead to the arrest of Shekau. On the count, it is the third time in six years.

In November 2012, the federal government placed N50 million on Shekau and N25 million each on other four members of the sect. Another $7 million was also placed on Shekau by the US government for any information that could lead to his arrest.

On July 23, 2017, Nigeria’s army Chief, Lt General Tukur Buratai, instructed the theatre Commander of operation Lafiya Dole to get him Abubakar Shekau in 40 days. However, the ultimatum ended with no Shekau in the army’s net.
