Harvey Weinstein's membership of BAFTA has been suspended after a string of sexual assault allegations were levelled at the movie producer.
Harvey Weinstein has been suspended from BAFTA
BAFTA: "We hope this announcement sends a clear message that such behaviour has absolutely no place in our industry."
The British Academy of Film and Television Arts released a statement on Wednesday stating that it considers his alleged behaviour "completely unacceptable and incompatible with BAFTA’s values."
Weinstein was fired from his firm, The Weinstein Company, earlier this week following accusations in The New York Times. The New Yorker magazine published further accounts of his behaviour on Tuesday.
Here is the full BAFTA statement:
Scores of actresses have come forward accusing Weinstein of sexual harassment, assault and rape including Rose McGowan, Rosanna Arquette, Judith Godrèche, and Asia Argento.
Angelina Jolie and Gwyneth Paltrow are the most high profile stars to allege that Weinstein made unwanted advances towards them at the beginning of their careers.
One of the most recent accusations is from Zoe Brock, a model from New Zealand, who gave a graphic account of alleged harassment by Weinstein.
Weinstein's wife, the fashion designer Georgina Chapman, announced she was leaving him in light of the allegations.
