The Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, is getting dragged on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook for saying Nigerian roads are not as bad as folks often say they are. His words were: "The roads are not as bad as we sometimes portray them." A member of the House of Representatives from Osun State, Bamidele Salam (PDP) has even challenged Fashola to a 90-day tour on Nigerian roads if he’s got the balls. Salam says Fashola’s remarks is proof that politically exposed persons and government officials exist in a bubble and are far removed from the daily realities of the average Nigerian. So where did all the kasala start? Fashola was addressing State House correspondents after the federal executive council meeting of Wednesday, November 6, when he made the remarks that have now landed him in trouble. He even dared the journalists to use a direct remark on the subject as their headlines. And boy, did the media houses oblige him!! (Insert clips from this tweet from 1:19 to 1:21) https://twitter.com/NigeriaGov/status/1192472453366321159?s=09 According to Fashola, his ministry cannot be totally blamed for poor performance because there are so many factors affecting its productivity including funding, rigorous protocols, lack of easy access to resources and rain. Fashola: “The roads are not as bad as they are often portrayed. I know that this is going to be your headline, but the roads are not that bad. When I come here to announce that a particular amount was approved for a contract, that doesn’t mean the amount has been paid, contrary to what you suggest. You are mindful also that minister of finance, different arms of government are escalating the fiscal challenges we face as a nation in trying to fund the budget.” Well, as you know, tweeps have got no chill. They came for Fashola and brought receipts with them. https://twitter.com/nafeezi/status/1192327985757601792?s=20 https://twitter.com/SegunOladejo_/status/1192316764195098624?s=20 https://twitter.com/OlayinkaLere/status/1192326849860395008?s=20 https://twitter.com/Suyi81698020/status/1192354959662223360?s=20 https://twitter.com/One_NewMan/status/1192316849050046469?s=20 https://twitter.com/RealSeanCurtis/status/1192079117925134336?s=20 CTA: How bad are federal roads where you live?
